Healthy Snacking

I’ve talked about it before in past posts but I will mention it again, I love living a healthy lifestyle! This past year I have lost 55lbs and that is L A R G E L Y due to changing my diet. I of course also incorporated workouts into my daily routine but that’s for another post!

Today I want to talk to you about snacking. I’ve always been a snacker, reaching for not so great options led, in part, to my weight gain. By cutting out the junk and replacing it with nutritious and filling options, the weight fell off! Not only was I losing weight but my energy levels stayed up, I slept better, and my overall happiness and mood changed for the better. I know many are like me and want to snack during the day, especially if you are a busy mom! Let me share what I reach for when I want a snack:

I recently discovered Power Up on Instagram and was intrigued. They were kind enough to send me a few samples of their delicious trail mix and I was so impressed! My husband has even managed to finish off a bag by himself. They have so many varieties and the best part is they are made from all natural ingredients, gluten free, and even Vegan!

It has taken me a while to find a yogurt that I will consistently buy and eat on a regular basis that is also healthy. Once I tried Oikos triple zero I never looked back. I like that it is low in sugar and high in protein. I top mine with a little bit of granola and fresh fruit to make it a little more filling but it is also perfectly fine on it’s own. I prefer the vanilla flavor but will occasionally reach for the peach or strawberry options as well.

I am a CHEESE lover! The problem is cheese can be loaded with fat. These little individual cheese packages are perfect for me. I find that one is a perfect afternoon snack.

I have always been a big fruit lover. We have this basket of fruit filled with the best seasonal options. This is great because if I am looking for something quick it is easy to just grab an apple or an orange. In the summer we stock up on peaches and nectarines. I also eat grapefruit daily so we always have those on hand as well. If you are looking for a little more filling option I like to top rice cakes with peanut butter and bananas or dip apple slices in peanut butter.

As with all things, life is all about balance! Although I tend to eat healthy the majority of the time, it doesn’t mean I am perfect. I love ending each day with something sweet with my kids! Hope everyone is able to treat themselves this Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas

I can’t believe Thanksgiving is already next week! Christmas and the holidays will be here before we know it and then 2018, it’s basically March 😂

I’ve teamed up with PinkBlush to share two outfit ideas with you for Thanksgiving. Now, if you celebrate like my family then you keep it low key, casual and comfortable. Many celebrate with bigger more formal gatherings. I have attended such gatherings and they can be a blast too!

Let’s start with the more dressy look

This off the shoulder top is so cute. I loved that the material was soft enough that I didn’t feel uncomfortable in it. I really think this is the perfect fall top, the colors scream fall! The bell sleeves add a little something extra and unexpected. I paired this look with dark jeans and tall dark boots. I also added a cute hat for a little twist!

The next look is a little more comfortable, possibly for a smaller family gathering

This cardigan can be worn so many ways which is one reason why I love it! You can wear it open and draped, the fringe is such a pretty detail. You also have the option to button one or both sides for a more closed off look.

Active Family

Do you stick to your new years resolutions? This year I decided to give it a try. . .

I was sick of feeling uncomfortable and self conscious. I felt unhealthy and wanted to make a change and commit to living a healthier lifestyle. I can honestly say this past year has been a challenge but I feel more confident and happier than ever.

Because I chose to make this change, it obviously directly affected my family. Whenever possible, I try to get my whole family active! This doesn’t mean going to a gym, we love taking outdoor walks through our community trails, playing hide and seek outside, or exploring local playgrounds. In the winter we visit indoor gyms and bounce houses with the kids and not only is it a great activity for them it also tires them out!

This past summer Kellan turned 3 and I  knew I wanted to sign him up for soccer. This has been so great for him! He gets to run around one night a week and also gets a chance to interact with other kids his age. We are keeping it going and have him signed him up for the fall and winter leagues. As soon as Marley turns 2, I would love to enroll her in dance classes!


One product that is awesome for active families or even families that are often on the go, is the Nuby Snack N’ Sip cup. We love to take this cup with us on walks or to soccer practice. I stuff the cup with goldfish, puffs or raisins for the kids and it doubles as a sippy cup! I love that it is BPA free and spill proof.
